Clean Energy Spotlight: Sara Ross

This week’s #cleanenergyspotlight is an entrepreneur who is helping to accelerate an equitable clean energy transition for schools. Meet Sara Ross, co-founder of UndauntedK12 in Amherst, Massachusetts.

UndauntedK12 is a nonprofit that aims to convert school buildings into climate resilient facilities. In June, the nonprofit joined other organizations in Massachusetts to create a special commission that would  “take on the interrelated issues of equitable and adequate funding for school facilities, policies to support healthy schools, and policies to advance the state’s environmental and greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals in schools.”

Recognizing that everyone, regardless of age, race, or socioeconomic class will be affected by investment in clean energy (or a lack of), Ross wishes that “more education leaders understood the opportunity and the imperative to embrace climate solutions in schools and how not doing so is a bet against our kids' future,” she told the Faces Of Clean Energy Program.

Prior to co-founding UndauntedK12, Ross founded Sungage Financial in 2011, a rooftop solar financing company that makes solar more accessible and affordable for homeowners. Under Ross’ leadership, Sungage was recognized by the Department of Energy's SunShot Initiative for helping reduce the cost of solar.

“Clean energy can improve our health, provide family-sustaining jobs, and ensure that our kids have a habitable planet,” she told the Faces Of Clean Energy Program.

Congratulations, Sara, and thank you for working to create an equitable clean energy transition for our future generations.
