Tyler Greene is an Environmental Sustainability Researcher at Morehouse College.
Why is clean energy important to you? Clean energy has the potential to provide my family with the autonomy that they have been deserving of.
What’s your proudest accomplishment in clean energy? My proudest achievement in my climate career thus far, has been winning the Blackstone Big Ideas Climate and Social Impact award.
What did you do prior to working in clean energy? Prior to and aside from my roles, I have been a student at Morehouse College, and an environmental justice and sustainability researcher, whilst tutoring and mentoring those behind me.
How did you first get introduced to clean energy? The climate industry was first introduced to me as a new response to the climate crisis. when I learned that there were not only governmental and public sector organizations providing services for recovery and preparation for the changing weather patterns and resources
What does your job mean to you and your community? My sense of self is inseparable from my community, as those who have contributed to my development are with me each step of the way, even those no longer with us. My effort to aid coastal and particularly Caribbean communal responses to the environmental and economic changes arising, stems from my recognition of these challenges in the daily lives of my family. I believe that if successful, I can potentially transform the immediate and long term quality of life for my community, and that is all I can ask for.
How is clean energy helping your community / state? Clean energy can dramatically reduce the reliance on costly and polluting fossil fuels, which strengthens the environmental sustainability and public health of the community. Integrating clean energy technologies and principles in schooling and education further prepares us all as forward-thinking leaders in the fight against climate change.
Why do you think clean energy provides the jobs of the future? I believe that with the adoption of new technologies comes the necessity of new needs in response to these technological advancements. Specifically within the scope of clean energy, given the extent to which these technologies need to be adopted on a large scale, there will be an unprecedented amount of educational and productive opportunities for the generation, maintenance, and the decommissioning of these technologies.
Why should congress invest in clean energy jobs? I think that it is important for Congress and other public officials to support clean energy and the roles associated with its roll-out, given that regardless of the technological advancements, it is required for members of the general public and their organizations to be aware, incentivized, and accountable. The distribution of this knowledge, as well as the benefits of these new technologies must be in part disseminated by Congress.
