Jamie Skaar, Energy Efficiency, California

Jamie Skaar is the founder and CEO of Sol Solutions Today. He lives in California and has been in the industry for 10 years.

Why is clean energy important to you? Clean energy is important to me because it not only improves the energy efficiency and performance of buildings, but it also helps to reduce the negative impact on the environment and promote a sustainable future for all of us.

What’s your proudest accomplishment in clean energy? My proudest accomplishment in clean energy is the successful implementation of comprehensive energy efficiency retrofit projects for families across Washington, Oregon, Idaho and California that not only significantly reduced their energy consumption and costs, but also improved the comfort and indoor air quality for them and their children.

What did you do before entering clean energy? Digital Marketing

When were you first introduced to clean energy? After helping to scale a startup company in the Puget Sound to 8 figures.

What should more people know about your role? I wish more people knew that my job as a building performance and energy efficiency professional goes beyond just selling equipment, but also involves analyzing and identifying ways to improve the overall energy efficiency, comfort, and health of buildings for the benefit of both the occupants and the environment.

Clean energy is helping my community and state by reducing dependence on fossil fuels, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, improving air quality, creating jobs in the industry and helping to make our buildings more energy efficient and comfortable for occupants, it’s also helping to reduce costs for homeowners and businesses. It is also helping to make our state more resilient to power outages and natural disasters.

What does your job mean to you and your family? My job as a building performance and energy efficiency professional means that I am not only able to provide for my family, but also make a meaningful impact on the environment and the well-being of others by improving the energy efficiency and comfort of buildings. It also means that I am able to contribute to a more sustainable future for my children and future generations.

Why should Congress invest in clean energy jobs, not fossil fuel jobs? Congress should invest in clean energy jobs because they offer a sustainable and long-term solution for the country's energy needs and they are a vital way to combat climate change, create jobs, and promote economic growth. Investing in fossil fuel jobs only perpetuates the negative effects of climate change and does not have the same economic and environmental benefits as clean energy jobs.
